All good things must come to an end. Simon Cowell and Fox announced this weekend that The X Factor USA has been cancelled and will not return for a fourth season. Besides declining ratings, the show’s creator and head judge Simon Cowell no longer wanted to commute to Los Angeles to film the reality show. Cowell and girlfriend Lauren Silverman are expecting their first child together later this month.

In statement released last night, Cowell wrote, “I’ve had a fantastic time over the last 12 years, both on ‘The X Factor’ and ‘American Idol’, and apart from being lucky enough to find some amazing talent on the shows, I have always had an incredible welcome from the American public — most of the time!”

Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly wrote in the same statement that “there is no ‘X Factor USA’ without Simon Cowell” and the two seem to be parting on very good terms.

Cowell will be reportedly splitting time between the UK and New York City. He also expressed his conflicting emotions about the decision to leave the US version of The X Factor in a series of tweets:
